The Hyde, formerly known as Ratty’s Retreat, having undergone a beautiful transformation, now offers a mix of homely charm with a real touch of luxury. With views onto our courtyard and country gardens, each room has been sympathetically restyled, to reflect the unique character of the building.
A year in the making, this two storey, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom holiday home has been created to welcome discerning multi generational families of up to 6 people.
Entering from the south-facing paved patio (which has outside dining and bbq), the stunning well-appointed kitchen, decorated with a quirky touch of colour (reminiscent of a 1950’s ice cream parlour) “should put you in the holiday mood”. The hand finished kitchen cabinets, replete with all the conveniences of home; including dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer, double oven with ceramic hob, coffee machine and microwave.
The ground floor bedroom with comfy king-size bed and tv, has a luxury en-suite shower room which can afford you privacy from younger members of your family group who will be comfortably accommodated upstairs. This room has been beautifully refurbished and decorated to grand standards.
Alight the staircase to find, sheltering beneath the soaring vaulted ceiling, a magnificent double bedroom, with king size bed and tv, designed with a nod to the Art-Deco style of yesteryear. There is a separate twin bedroom, that has been uniquely styled beneath the eves located alongside an historically influenced family bathroom, offering the charm of a bygone era.
All in all, this is a holiday home of such style and quality that you will want to come back year after year, to what you will hopefully think of as ‘your special place in the country.

Welcome Hospitality Packs
When you stay for longer, you’ll be greeted with our Luxury Welcome Pack, which also includes a loaf of rustic farmhouse bread, scones, butter, jam and clotted cream.
We can also provide a Dorset Breakfast Pack that includes local meats and cereal. For special occasions, we have the Upton Grange Celebration Package including champagne and appropriate decorations in your cottage. Ask for details about these two options.
As far as possible, all the items are sourced locally. The contents of a pack may vary depending on availability.
The Dorset Countryside
Go a little further to discover the Georgian seafront and family-friendly beach at Weymouth, or the busy county town of Dorchester. Popular and family-friendly attractions nearby include the primate haven of Monkey World, the heavyweight displays at the Tank Museum and the haunted Nothe Fort.
Other places of interest include the rock arch of Durdle Door, the atmospheric ruins of Corfe Castle, and the ‘lost’ village of Tyneham.
Self catering cottages
We want your holiday with us to be as hassle-free as possible. That’s why we provide:
- All bed linen and towels (changed weekly if you stay longer)
- Gas and electricity
- A complimentary Welcome Pack to give you a ‘taste of Dorset’
- Fully-equipped kitchen. This includes: electric cooker and hob, fridge and freezer, microwave and dishwasher
- Television (Freeview) and DVD player
- All the cutlery, crockery and utensils you should need
Pheasants, Ratty’s and Owls also have a washing machine. Some cottages have an open fire.
Parking & transport
The nearest railway station is Weymouth, which is around 5 1/2 miles away, or about 15-20 minutes by taxi. A number of taxi firms can provide cars to and from the station. There is currently no bus service to Upton Grange.
If it’s appropriate for you, we also have access to a helipad!

We want your holiday with us to be as hassle-free as possible. That’s why we provide:
Linen: All bed linen and towels (changed weekly if you stay longer).
Gas and electricity: All included in our price.
Entertainment: Television (Freeview), DVD player, music docking station for smartphones, selection of board games, puzzles and DVDs. Outdoor space for children.
Outdoors: The Grange estate garden and kids playground. Local venues and activities for couples and families. See Things to Do for more details.
End of stay cleaning: Included.
Cooking and dining: All the cutlery, crockery and utensils you should need.
Taste of Dorset: A complimentary Welcome Pack of local produce.

Parking: Free private parking
Check in time: 3pm
Check out time: 10am (but if you want an extra hour or two for a Sunday lie-in, please ask).
Internet: Limited WiFi - make your holiday a digital detox!
Character furnishings: Our cottages contain furniture and decor of a quality beyond that usually associated with self-catering. We ask that you treat our cottages with due care and consideration.
